Day 6 | A Promise for All

Acts 2:38b-39, “…And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off —for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

One of the most beautiful things about the “gift of the Holy Spirit” according to Peter is that it is a promise for “all whom the Lord our God will call.”  In other words, the gift of the Holy Spirit is a promise that God gave without an expiration date to the church.

Therefore, whenever a person is born again by the Spirit they can also be assured that God desires to also give them the gift of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues.  The above passage was given by Peter at the end of his inaugural sermon on the Day of Pentecost.  He had just finished explaining how Jesus had sent the Holy Spirit as promised beforehand by the prophet Joel.

During his preaching the people asked him what they must do to be saved.  Thus, Peter makes its perfectly clear both how they can be saved and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, v. 38, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

According to Peter’s inspired preaching the gift of the Holy Spirit with speaking in new languages was for all of them, their children, and for all who would ever call on Jesus.  As a result, if you have been called by Jesus and are currently saved, the gift of the Holy Spirit is for you.

Don’t delay or refuse your free gift from the Father, receive by faith God’s great gift today- the gift of the Holy Spirit!
