Most Popular Churches are Just One Step Away from Apostasy

Consider the following about the Beyonce Mass:

(1) WHAT THEY DID: The leaders of the mass are professed Christians. Their point was to use Beyonce and her words to draw people to Jesus. In other words, they said, “our message is the gospel” but our method is “Beyonce and Her Songs.”

WHAT MANY MODERN CHURCHES DO: They love to use secular movies, music and the things of the culture to get people to come and hear their motivational sermons. They too believe that our methods should be relevant- the idea of preaching LIKE Jesus is no longer important, being relevant is.

(2) WHAT THEY DID: They boasted in having almost 1,000 people come out for Beyonce AND hear the gospel. They were proud of their “bait and switch.”

WHAT MANY MODERN CHURCHES DO: They love to do the “bait and switch” as well. Most churches preach spiritually lite man-centered messages on relationships and draw people in because of their music and children’s programs. They count this kind of “seeker sensitive evangelism” as a win because people “hear the gospel.”

(3) WHAT THEY DID: The female preacher preached a powerful sermon… yet it was not biblically based- it was based in worldly wisdom… “do yourself, be you, don’t let people hold you down, you can make it, etc.” This kind of preaching had the crowd very emotional and motivated- no mention of God’s commands, repentance, eternal judgment, etc.

WHAT MANY MODERN CHURCHES DO: They love to preach sermons from worldly wisdom too. Just listen to most of what Carl Lentz, TD Jakes, Joel Osteen are actually saying. Listen to all the direct similarities to this carnal message. They too will whip the crowd into a frenzy saying partially biblical things that help people, “be better people, have better relationships, have more happiness in life, etc.” Very seldom will you ever hear them preach verse by verse or mention things like hell, repentance, judgment, godly living, etc. They too are motivated to “hype people up” by taking Scripture out of its context to say what they know itching ears want to hear.

I could keep going, but I think you get the point. Many popular churches are only 10-15yrs away from this kind of heresy in my opinion- especially affirming the LGBT lifestyle. My prediction is that in my lifetime I will see folks like TD Jakes, Andy Stanley, Willowcreek, and many others affirm the LGBT lifestyle- lest God change their methods and doctrine now in a radical way (which is my prayer).

I believe many already do, they just are waiting for the right time to come out to their congregations. They are strategically planning to do it so that they will not lose their churches. May God be my judge if I am wrong, but as a shepherd who can see the signs and called out people like Rob Bell before he proclaimed his universalism- I would take serious my warnings and not just brush them off as a “conspiracy theory.” (See Jeremiah 23:9-40)

Welcome to the church world Paul predicted over 1,900 years ago in 2 Timothy 4:1-5, “1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.

3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.”

(p.s. Notice how Vice, a vulgar and perverse network, bends over backwards to affirm this church- not so much those who preach the gospel- they only present the fringes and try to make everyone look bad. Yet, even the reporter loved this kind of service!)
