Pillars in the House of God! // Father’s Day 2025
The pastoral elder fathers preach on being pillars in the house of God by looking at examples in the Bible. Scripture teaches that the Church is “the pillar and foundation of the truth” (1 Timothy 3:15), and those who lead within it are called to uphold and guard that truth faithfully.
Paul described the apostles James, Cephas (Peter), and John as “pillars” (Galatians 2:9), recognizing their foundational role in the early Church’s authority and mission. To be a pillar means to be strong, dependable, and grounded in truth.
Just as physical pillars uphold a building, spiritual leaders uphold the structure of the Church by their teaching, example, and unwavering faithfulness. Jesus Himself is the cornerstone (Ephesians 2:20), but He calls elders and leaders to be supporting structures in His house, living out integrity, love, and sound doctrine.
These biblical stories and metaphors challenge all Christians — not seeking titles or fame, but becoming immovable supports in the temple of God, where every member is a living stone (1 Peter 2:5), and leaders are entrusted with shepherding the flock and keeping the truth steady amid shifting culture. God takes raw, unshaped rocks—ordinary, flawed people—and by His grace, He carves them into strong pillars that uphold His house.
